Dear
Growers
In
the fourth week of the 2023 season Victoria mill crushed 126,172
tonnes at an average CCS of 12.41 and Macknade mill crushed
52,914 at an average CCS of 12.45.
The
mill has requested that growers remind their harvester contractor
to ensure they mark the stand over on the tickets as it appears
to not be happening all the time.
The
mill has informed us that the processes that have contributed to
factory stops >60min this week have included bin uncouplers,
tip stations, loco breakdowns and clarification.
The
assembly of the next 150 11t steerable bins have started.
The mill have informed that they will add 10 units on the
line a week. They also have 3 of 33 new sugar boxes running
through the terminal. These will hit the line at a rate of 3 per
week.
On
another note students from Ingham State High School were involved
in a two-day agricultural workshop facilitated by CANEGROWERS
Herbert River.
The
students met with delivery providers of the Lower Herbert Water
Quality Program, and other industry representatives, who held
presentations relating to soil testing, water quality sampling,
GPS and EM Mapping. The project deliverers informed the students
about the practice changes growers are adopting to benefit their
productivity, profitability and the environment.
The
students also set out on a field trip to a local farm to meet
with Herbert growers on-farm to learn about ground preparation,
planting and harvesting.

Less than 7 CCS Clause
|
|
We
have had a number of growers raise an issue in regards to not
able to cut their standover so far due to rotation and wet
weather.
On
behalf of our members I have requested that the less than 7 ccs
clause be applicable for August due to the amount of standover
still remaining.

Milestone sugar shipment to UK
Australia’s first raw sugar shipment to the United Kingdom under
the new Australia-United Kingdom Free Trade Agreement (A-UKFTA)
was loaded in Townsville on Tuesday, opening an important new
market for the Queensland sugar industry.
Under the new agreement, which came into place on 31 May 2023,
tariff-free raw sugar exports to the UK have resumed for the
first time in 50 years, gradually increasing from an initial
allocation of 80,000 tonnes this year (pro rata) until tariffs
are completely eliminated on 1 January 2031.
The first Australian raw sugar sale under the new agreement was
made by industry-owned sugar marketer Queensland Sugar Limited
(QSL), who will send a shipment of raw sugar produced in the
Burdekin to Tate and Lyle Sugars’ refinery on the Thames in
London.
