Dear
Growers
In
the seventh week of the 2022 season Victoria Mill has crushed
97,000 tonnes at 11.89 CCS since this morning and is on track to
crush around 137,000 tonnes for the week. The mill had a
maintenance day on Tuesday. The mill reported that they are
seeing very high wear on the shredder tips this season with
higher silica levels in cane which is causing shredder chokes.
The mill will need to stop Friday for three hours to change some
more tips out.
Macknade
Mill has crushed 52,000 for week so far at 11.85 CCS and is on
track for 74,000 tonnes for the week. The Herbert River district
is on track to have crushed 209,000 tonnes for this week.
The
mill has also reported that there has been improved bin weights
this season compared the last and this is having a positive
effect on the crush rates.
Can
all growers encourage their harvester contractors to continue to
keep the bin weights up there and to not half fill bins, this
will help the district get the crop off this season.

Ensuring Contractors are Writing Finish times on
Bin Tickets to ensure correct reporting of over 22 hour Cut
to Crush
|
|
It
is important to ensure your contractors are writing the finish
time on your bin tickets. While this may not make much difference
to contractors, this directly effects growers and ensures the
right times are reported on your rake deliveries by identifying
if there has been missed samples if your rake is not crushed in
the 22 hour window. The consequence of no finish times on bin
tickets is
possibly a lower CCS and a lower payment.
If
you believe there has been an incorrect CCS recorded or the 22
hour cut to crush clause has not been followed please do not
hesitate to contact me and I will ensure these issues are
rectified for members.

New international alignment for Smartcane BMP
|
|
Smartcane
BMP has achieved alignment with the ProTerra sustainable sugar
framework which can offer a pathway to demonstrate sustainably
sourced sugar. CANEGROWERS has been working with ProTerra on the
alignment since 2017 and follows the milestone of reaching
alignment with another sustainable sugar platform, VIVE, in May.
There
are conditions to this new alignment and CANEGROWERS is
currently reviewing these with ProTerra. Through Smartcane BMP,
CANEGROWERS has now achieved alignment with all three major sugar
sustainability frameworks - Bonsucro, VIVE and ProTerra.

New weather info and maps
|
|
The
Bureau of Meteorology has developed new extreme climate and
weather outlook tools and graphs with more detail on unseasonal
rainfall and temperatures. There is a new ‘Chance of 3-day
totals’ map, and more information for any location. These are
available here
www.bom.gov.au/climate/outlooks/#/overview/summary
The
Queensland Government's Long Paddock rainfall poster has been
updated. The maps show data from April 2021 to March 2022 in
comparison to each year as far back as 1890 including
rainfall, tropical cyclone, and wet and dry periods.
