Dear Growers,
In the ninth week of the
2022 season Victoria mill crushed 133,117 tonnes and Macknade
mill crushed 75,851 tonnes totalling 208,698 tonnes for the week.
The CCS average for all cane was 12.02 CCS. Victoria mill had
maintenance on Tuesday and Macknade had a four hour shredder tip
change. Victoria has a 12 hour maintenance day planner for
Tuesday and there is no planned stop for Macknade this week.
Please discuss with your
harvester contractors to not overfill bins as there is spillage
occurring at Victoria mills due to overfilled bins.

Right to Repair Summit
|
|
CANEGROWERS Herbert River
manager Frank Scardamaglia presented at the Right to Repair
Summit in Canberra last week and met with Dr Andrew Leigh MP to
discuss the issue in the sugar industry. Australia now has
world-leading legislation on access to information for vehicle
repair and maintenance. The new Motor Vehicle Service
and Repair Legislation became Australian law on 1 July 2022.
This Scheme allows independent repairers to access service and
repair data. It is early days for this legislation and
Lesley Yates who is the Director of Advocacy for the Australian
Automotive Aftermarket Association provided a review of how the
law works and how well it is working for consumers
and independent repairers. Importantly she highlighted the
lessons learnt and how this might relate to other industries and
their journey towards repairability and open access to
repair information.
We are endeavouring to
utilise the same blue print the Motor Vehicle Service and Repair
Legislation is built on for farm machinery.

Worker crushed by tractor
|
|

|
|
In
May 2022, a worker was crushed to death by a tractor. Early
investigations indicate the man was operating the tractor (with
slasher attachment) by himself. It appears he either got off the
tractor while it was moving or fell from the tractor and it
struck him. Investigations are continuing. Read the full story here.
