Dear
Members,
The
CANEGROWERS Herbert River board met with the mill to discuss the
start date for the season.
In
light of the recent rainfall, it was agreed to look at a day by
day proposition from the 14th of June until the mill
is able to get a minimum of 6,000 tonnes to start one side.
The
mill advised they will be contacting contractors and especially
growers who will be cutting first and second to gain confirmation
that their contractor can start and continue to cut.

Raising your issues with the new Government
|
|
CANEGROWERS
has written to the new Australian Government ministers who have
recently taken up roles in portfolios relevant to the sugarcane
industry following the May election. Contact with the
ministerial offices over the next days and weeks will set us up
with opportunities to ensure the Ministers gain a timely and
accurate understanding of our issues and opportunities and set up
a platform for working with the Albanese Government.

Banana freckle alert
|
|
Do
you grow bananas alongside your sugarcane?
Biosecurity
Queensland is urging vigilence after the fungal disease banana
freckle was confirmed in the Northern Territory. While there's no
risk to human health from eating affected fruit, this fungal
disease afffects the leaves and banana skins. Signs include
leaves feeling like sandpaper, spotting on the flower bracts and
bunch stalks and blemishes on the fruit. If you suspect banana
freckle, report it to Biosecurity Queensland on 132523 or online here

Your June 2022 market update is
ready!
Commodity
markets continue to be quite volatile due to the
ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Thankfully, news over the
past month has been mostly positive for sugar prices, with
life-of-contract highs right across the forward market, out to
the 2025 season.
