Dear
Growers
As
we are nearing the start of the season, there are a few workshops
CANEGROWERS Herbert River will be running including ‘How Relative
CCS Works’ and “How to extract further information out of the
Growers Portal’.
We
have found that there are a number of discussions around the
district and the sugar industry on how relative CCS works,
therefore we have compiled a workshop for members to attend the
CANEGROWERS building in Ingham.
The two dates we
have arranged are;
- Thursday 12th May
from 1pm – 3pm
- Thursday 19th
May from 1pm – 3pm
To
book your spot in one of the above sessions please contact the
Canegrowers office on 4776 5350.

Sugar export sweetener
|
|
The
Federal Government has pledged almost $600,000 to help diversify
and enhance market access for Australian sugar exports.
Minister
for Agriculture David Littleproud announced the funding during a
visit to CANEGROWERS Chairman Paul Schembri's Mackay farm on
29 April. Minister Littleproud said the funding would improve
trade outcomes for the industry. The funding has been
welcomed by CANEGROWERS and the Australian Sugar Milling
Council.
"With
85% of our raw sugar exported, securing access to a wide
range of markets is vitally important to the industry. The
value of market diversity cannot be understated," Mr
Schembri said. Visit the CANEGROWERS website to read the media release.

Review of Farm Management Targets
|
|
CANEGROWERS
is calling on the Federal and Queensland governments to extend
the review of the Farm Management Targets for Reef Water Quality
to allow more time for a successful outcome.
The
intent of the government to rush towards a resolution does
not allow for transparent consideration of any draft
recommendations. It’s especially disappointing given the
success of the initial regional grower consultations undertaken
by Alluvium Consulting.

Harvesting workers for the 2022 Season
|
|
Local
and interstate workers are continuing to seek seasonal employment
in Queensland’s sugarcane industry in the lead-up to the 2022
Season on the back of CANEGROWERS’ campaign to tackle labour
shortages during this year’s harvest.
A steady stream of positions and people looking for work are
being listed on the Work in the Industry page on the CANEGROWERS
website. Anyone is welcome to list a position on a cane farm or
with an industry contractor and the link is being promoted across
social media channels in communities where people have the skills
needed for the harvest. Reach the site via the CANEGROWERS home
page or at
