Smartcane BMP milestone
|
|
Smartcane BMP has
now accredited more than 150,000 hectares of sugarcane land.
That's how much area is farmed by the 682 accredited farm
businesses. The milestone was passed early in April. The
program has also attracted some attention with a survey
showing strong community support for the production of
sustainable sugar. Read the 'Huge support for Queensland
sugarcane farmers' media release on the Smartcane BMP website www.smartcane.com.au/latest-news/

CANEGROWERS calls for Reef review extension
|
|
At
the recent meeting of the advisory stakeholder group to
the Independent Review of Reef WQ Management
Targets CANEGROWERS advocated for a significant extension
(3-6 months) to the process. The extra time is needed so that
there can be adequate consideration of the key farm practices in
the targets, current adoption levels, the likely level of
additional adoption, and the method used for projecting water
quality benefits. However, the Queensland Government is
considering a minor extension of 1-2 months, which is
disappointing, given the Government took over three years to
agree to have the review.
