CANEGROWERS Business Essentials Course for Herbert
River Growers
|
|
Canegrowers
has two days in March set aside for a professional development
course for Herbert River growers focused on assessing and
managing business risks (like volatile sugar prices).
CANEGROWERS
Business Essentials, builds on the successful Pricing
Essentials workshops run in 2021, and includes assistance to
calculate costs of production and explore pricing options aimed
at improving profitability. No previous pricing experience is
needed. New elements in the two-day program include risk management,
business management and Workplace Health and Safety. Tools and
information presented will be tailored-made for the district and
growers will learn to apply them to their individual farm
businesses.
The
course will be run in Ingham on Tuesday 22 March and Wednesday 23
March. It is being delivered with support from the federal and
Queensland governments' Farm Business Resilience Program and the
work done in the course can be used by participants to access
farm funding through QRIDA. There is more information on
the CANEGROWERS website
Please
call the CANEGROWERS Herbert River office on 4776 5350 to
register your interest in attending.

Welcome debate on problematic farm regulations
|
|
CANEGROWERS has welcomed the
opportunity for the significant issues and concerns that surround
the reef regulations imposed on farmers to be aired in the
Queensland Parliament.
“Through a bill introduced
by Nick Dametto MP, the Queensland Government’s bureaucratic
treatment of the state’s sugarcane growers has been put in the
spotlight,” CANEGROWERS Chairman Paul Schembri said.

Road access for harvesters
|
|
Ahead
of the 2022 season, CANEGROWERS is working to facilitate the
movement of steel-tracked harvesters across the industry.
Representatives have met with the National Heavy Vehicle
Regulator and the Department of Transport and Main Roads to
discuss the options to facilitate the necessary permits for the
crossing of roads by these harvesters at recognised crossing
points. A single permit through a district office or a Notice
were options discussed instead of individual owner permits.
Crossings by steel-tracked harvesters at points not currently
recognised needs individual permits which in general, the
Department has not approved because of the potential for road
damage.

Working to find workers
|
|
Finding
enough workers for the harvest is emerging as a challenge for the
2022 season in the sugar industry. CANEGROWERS is developing
a campaign to attract farm workers from southern
states to Queensland for winter and has met with the Department
of Home Affairs and the Pacific Labour Facility to discuss
options for using labour hire organisations.
You can help build the case and the campaign by
asnwering four quick questions in this CANEGROWERS quick
poll https://web.canegrowers.com.au/cn/a7wtu/laboursurvey
