Policy Council farewells eight
|
|
The CANEGROWERS Policy
Council meeting in Brisbane this week was the final one for
eight district representatives who will retire from their
positions on 30 April. Clocking up more than 190 years of service
to their fellow growers between them, the eight representatives
were recognised at a dinner at Queensland Parliament House and
presented with ceremonial cane knives.
The next Policy Council
meeting in May will include new representatives nominated by
their district boards following the conclusion of the CANEGROWERS
Triennial election process which is currently underway.

Farm groups urge action on pesticide issues
|
|
CANEGROWERS has
participated in the establishment of a National Working Party on
Pesticide Application along with representatives from most
cropping and horticulture industries. It's aim
is collaboration and coordination on areas of common
interest around pesticide application, including regulation,
stewardship, and technical issues.
With the regulator also
participating in discussions around structure and funding for the
group, members are now hoping it will accelerate work on issues
including current testing of a decision tool for customising
drift management, the use of drones for pesticide application,
and the use of vertical booms for certain crops.

Promoting cane harvest work
|
|
CANEGROWERS is promoting
the opportunities for work in the Queensland sugarcane harvest
through social media posts targetting grain-producing regions of
four states in a bid to attract skilled workers looking for
seasonal work.
Growers and contractors needing
to find staff for the season are urged to post their vacancies on
the CANEGROWERS website Work in the Industry page so interested
people can see there are positions available.

Farming in Focus Forum
QSL is the proud sponsor of
the Farming In Focus 1-day forum to be held at the Ayr
Showgrounds on Friday 27 May. The forum will provide insights
into diversification opportunities, supply chain information,
carbon farming opportunities, building business resilience along
with practical experiences and case studies. Book your ticket here.
Selling or leasing your farm?
It's important for QSL
Direct growers who are planning changes to their farm’s operating
structure (such as a farm sale, new lease or subdivision) to
complete a Farm Sale/Lease Information Form and submit this to
QSL. This form is not a contract – it simply initiates the
documentation process by gathering basic information about the
transaction to enable QSL to prepare the relevant Deed of
Acknowledgement and/or Deed of Novation to implement associated
pricing transfers. This can be done before, during or after the
transaction occurs, but ideally, before the transaction occurs.
For further information or to commence the process, please
contact the QSL Direct team on 1800 870 756.
Harvest Pool Opt Out
Leave the QSL Harvest Pool
at any time during the season and price more yourself using QSL's
new Harvest Pool Opt Out. Just choose to 'Opt Out' and any of
your Harvest Pool tonnage which has not already been priced by
QSL will be transferred to the Self-Managed Harvest Contract so
you can price it yourself. Available to QSL Direct growers from 1
May 2022.
For more information please click here, or contact your local QSL
team.
