Dear
Growers
We
understand that the Sugar industry in Australia including Herbert
River district are facing a skill/ labour shortage in particular
haul out drivers for the coming 2022 season. I have spoken to a
couple of Herbert River Harvester Contractors who have shared
this with me also. As we all know this directly and indirectly
affects our members.
CANEGROWERS
are currently exploring opportunities to assist with this
shortage either locally in Australia or overseas.
We
would like to gauge how many contractors / harvesting groups are
having difficulty filling their haul out positions for the 2022
season. If you believe your contractor / group is finding it
difficult filling their haul out positions can you please email
your group name and contractor name to frank_scardamaglia@canegrowers.com.au

Dates set for Herbert grower course
|
|
Two
days in March have been set aside for a professional development
course for Herbert River growers focused on assessing and
managing business risks (like volatile sugar prices).
CANEGROWERS
Business Essentials, builds on the successful Pricing Essentials
workshops run in 2021, and includes assistance to calculate costs
of production and explore pricing options aimed at improving
profitability. No previous pricing experience is needed. New
elements in the two-day program include risk management, business
management and Workplace Health and Safety. Tools and information
presented will be tailored-made for the district and growers will
learn to apply them to their individual farm businesses.
The
course will be run in Ingham on Tuesday 22 March and Wednesday 23
March. It is being delivered with support from the federal and
Queensland governments' Farm Business Resilience Program and the
work done in the course can be used by participants to access
farm funding through QRIDA. There is more information on the CANEGROWERS website and growers
can use the online form or call the CANEGROWERS Herbert River
office to register their interest in attending.
