Dear Growers

Victoria Mill has crushed 88,000 tonnes for the week until Friday morning at a CCS of 13.09. The mill expects to crush 130,000 tonnes for the week. Maintenance Day was held on A side milling train this week. Due to a failure of a third party contractors high pressure water blasting equipment resulted in a longer than expected planned stop. Macknade mill continued its consistent run crushing 48,000 tonnes to Friday morning looking at a 65,000 tonnes for the week at a CCS of 12.81. Scheduled factory stops next week are planned for Victoria Mill B side on Tuesday and Macknade on Thursday. Databank was revised during the week and has the Herbert River district still finishing on the 24^th November with 10 hours wet weather each week built into budget.

CANEGROWERS Herbert River board and myself met with Tony Perrett LNP member for Gympie who is currently the Queensland Shadow Minister for Agriculture, fisheries and forestry. We discussed the flaws in the reef regulations and the 2050 reef plan. We also discussed the challenges in the sugar industry.

Fall armyworm detected in the Burdekin

Fall armyworm (FAW) has been detected on two separate blocks of sugarcane in the Burdekin region. Growers are advised to remain aware and observant, but at this stage there is no cause for action.

The first block where the FAW was detected is young late plant cane and had a high level of grass weeds present in the block. These grass weeds have been controlled, and it is suspected that the population of FAW has subsequently moved from them to the sugarcane crop.

Incident alert - Worker killed and six injured when powerline arced to harvester

In July 2021, one worker died and six others received electric shocks when a harvester came close enough to an overhead powerline to cause an electric fault current path. Initial investigations found the powerline had dropped approximately 3.6m from its original height because the stay wire on one of the poles had broken, potentially due to corrosion.
