Dear Growers
We are into our sixteenth week
and as of Friday morning Macknade mill has crushed 54,000 tonnes
at a CCS of 12.2. The mill planned a stop for 4 hours at 10 am
this morning to change shredder tips and the expected tonnes
crushed for Macknade this week will be around 70,000. Victoria
mill has crushed 87,000 tonnes of cane as of this morning at a
CCS of 12.98 and expects to crush around 130,000 for the week.
The mill has reported that the repairs to boiler 11
super heater tube were completed Wednesday morning and the boiler
was brought back on line after the planned maintenance stop. The
mill advised that the boiler being off line restricted the
crushing rate to around 850 tph for the three days taken to cool
down boiler, investigate issue and repair. Next week Victoria
mill will have a planned maintenance stop on Thursday for 12 hours
to carry out a chemical clean and normal milling and feeding
station maintenance.
As of Friday morning Herbert River mills have
crushed a total of 2.412 Mt which is approximately 62% of the
updated crop estimate.

The Future of Farming and the Great Barrier Reef
|
|
NCEconomics and Alluvium Consulting have been
engaged by the Great Barrier Reef Foundation on a project to
investigate innovative policy, financing and funding initiatives
for land management practices and land use transitions which both
improve water quality and consider the economic circumstances of
farmers. Initiatives which result in positive water quality and
economic outcomes are more likely to be sustainable and help to
provide lasting reductions in the impacts of poor water quality
on the Reef. To understand your views, we ask that you complete
the survey here or via the QR code.

This survey should take approximately 10 minutes to
complete. If you wish to provide contact details you will
automatically enter the draw to win a $100 gift card.

Grower voices to be at heart of industry
roadmap work
|
|
CANEGROWERS is working to ensure a specific grower
reference group is formed to assist in the development of an
Australian sugar industry plan for the next 20 years.
A project to develop an industry roadmap is being led by
Sugar Research Australia and being funded by the Cooperative
Research Centre for Northern Australia. The project will be
officially launched soon.
As part of the industry steering committee,
CANEGROWERS has been meeting with other stakeholders in the
research and milling sectors to discuss how the project will
proceed and a growers' reference group is high on our agenda.

Blockchain testing with growers and mills
|
|
Four cane growers and two milling companies have
joined the next phase of the CANEGROWERS blockchain
project. CANEGROWERS and KPMG have met with Tully Sugar and
Mackay Sugar which will provide specific data to support the
traceability of Smartcane BMP sugar using the KPMG Origins
platform. The aim is to test and validate the platform in
real time. Two growers from each mill area will also be involved
in the pilot.
