Dear Growers 

We are now into the fifteenth week and Victoria Mill has crushed 97,000 tonnes up until Friday morning at a CCS of 12.91 and looking at a 137,000 week. They had a maintenance day on Thursday that required duel train stops for a few hours to repair some leaks in injection water. Macknade Mill has crushed 43,000 tonnes for the week at a CCS of 12.60 looking like a 63,000 week. Macknade Mill had an extended maintenance day of 16 hours to repair a leaking front wall header on the boiler. This repair went to schedule and the mill reported it had a very good chemical clean. Mill also reported that rates after the stop have been very good with improved bin weights and cane quality. The mill reported that the Herbert River crop continues to crush under budget and was again revised down from 3.97mt  to 3.89mt.

Formation of CANEGROWERS Herbert River - Abergowrie Branch

The Canegrowers Herbert River board attended a meeting at Abergowrie CWA Hall Wednesday night with members from Abergowrie, Long Pocket and Lannercost. An update on industry and district matters were discussed. 

At the end of the meeting the members decided to form a CANEGROWERS branch in Abergowrie where Glen Cristaudo was nominated and elected Chair and Joe Crisafulli was nominated and elected Secretary. 

Congratulations to Glen and Joe and we look forward to attending future Abergowrie branch meetings. 

Round Two of Pricing Essentials course on the way

CANEGROWERS is planning to deliver a second round of its popular Pricing Essentials for Cane Growers course. The first round, in the later part of 2019 and early part of 2020, had more than 140 growers in all regions attend the two-day program which aims to build skills around determining cost of production and managing sugar price risk exposure to boost farm profitability.

Funding has been secured and CANEGROWERS is working with TAFE Qld on a plan for the coming months. Members will be notified when the details and logistics of where and when the courses will be offered is finalised.

SRA Central District staff have recently collected estimated CCS information from a variable rate lime and gypsum trial that was established by Proserpine Young Farmers last year as part of their "Bringing Precision to Proserpine" project.

Early-Start Actively Managed Pool: The 2022-Season Early-Start Actively Managed Pool is now accepting nominations. This is a QSL-managed pool that prices 2022-Season sugar in the same manner as the Actively Managed Pool, but over a longer pricing window. Nominations will close 31 October 2021, with the pool's pricing window commencing from the first trading day after this date.
