Dear Growers
Into the third week of 2021
season and it has been an interrupted week with more heavy rain
over night around the district. There was some early morning cane
cut this morning but the mill made the call to stop all
harvesters as only a small amount of cane was expected. Victoria
Mill stopped crushing at 6.45am this morning and will liquidate
and shut down. Boilers are expected to be off line by 2pm today.
The mill has reported that they now need to manage bagasse stocks
and will review the possibility of a restart over the weekend but
at this stage is unlikely until next week.
In regards to maintenance, the mill has reported that both sets
of evaporators have been cleaned and all maintenance activities
completed. They will use the total steam off the stop to perform
repairs to steam and product leaks. The mill advised that they have
now settled down issues with the locos and factory commissioning.
As of Friday the mill has crushed
61,000 tonnes at Victoria mill with a CCS of 11.64 and 25,135
tonnes at Macknade with a CCS of 11.45. The mill also reported
that there has been some very poor rakes of cane processed this
week causing chokes in the shredder. An example of this included
one particular rake that went 6 CCS and was full of weeds and
vines.

Decision support tool to help the industry find
the harvesting sweet spot
|
|
Recent research into sugarcane harvesting has
demonstrated that there is significant potential for the industry
to ensure more sugar makes its way from the paddock and into the
supply chain.
Through a range of research projects in recent
years, it has been demonstrated that adjusting the way the
industry operates its harvesters can put more valuable sugar into
the supply chain – and not leave it in the paddock.
However, changing these practices costs money.
Practice change involves a negotiation between the harvesting
contractor and the farmer to make sure both sides of the equation
are receiving a benefit.

|
CANEGROWERS recently met with Growcom, Qld
Dairyfarmers Organisation, Cotton Australia and other
members of the Queensland Farmers' Federation (QFF) Council
meeting alongside other industry leaders at the Qld
Department of Agriculture and Forestry's Redlands research
station.
On this site, the Qld University of Technology is
establishing a H2Xport pilot plant that is being built to help
establish a hydrogen export industry for Queensland. Other
discussions on the day focused on water pricing policies, in
particular the State Government policy of applying differential
water pricing discounts depending on the crop being grown,
workplace health and safety programs promoted by the government
and involvement with the State Government agricultural ministerial
advisory council where QFF represents our interests.
